Torrey Pines State Beach Spot Guide

Torrey Pines State Beach is a half-mile stretch of consistent, powerful surf north of La Jolla, CA. Blacks Beach is the premier surf spot at Torrey Pines State Beach, due in large part to its local bathymetry: a deep-water canyon off the coast funnels swells directly into Blacks, resulting in powerful, hollow, high-performance waves. Thanks to the presence of the La Jolla Submarine Canyon, Blacks often shows off larger, more powerful surf than other nearby spots, and Blacks can handle surf at about any size. Blacks Beach is a secluded spot and is the area’s only nude beach. Located on the southern end of Torrey Pines State Beach, access is through a steep path through the cliffs.
