The Big Island is the biggest of the Hawaiian Islands, it sits on an active volcano, Mount Kilauea, and it’s still growing. Hawaii is big, but compared to Oahu it is relatively unpopulated. It is more rural than Kauai and Maui and less known for its surfing. But it’s a huge, beautiful, coast of charted and uncharted surf spots and year round waves. Some of the most popular spots are Kahalu’u Beach Park and Pine Trees on the Kona side. If you are seeking off the beaten path surfing, there is a lot of breaks to explore, just use caution as even the popular spots may not have lifeguards around.
