Ventura county is distinctively different than its southern California neighbors. It’s a working class community and one of the largest agricultural producing areas in the state. Surfing conditions are more challenging, locals are a bit more protective, and the water temps stay colder year round. It’s no surprise that the area is home to distinctively unique surfers like Timmy Curran, Dane Reynolds, Nick Rozsa, and Matt McCabe. The sleepy stretch of beach can get electric in the winter and has a great variety of unique surf spots to check out.
Summers are likely to be the smallest season, although there are a few summer spots like Santa Clara Rivermouth. Surfers must be patient and creative in the summer, and wait out the lull. Fall brings crossing swells and picture perfect hollow beach breaks. Weather is warming up and the water is about as warm as it will ever get. Ventura County surfing turns on in the winter. The surf spots can pick up almost any winter swell and October through April can get be amazing. The area has some quality beachbreaks and pointbreaks that can really produce. The variety of spots offer something for everyone pretty much year round.
