Costa Rica is a world class surf destination. The rugged, rainforest covered Central American country has coasts on the Pacific and the Caribbean. The Caribbean side, including Salsa Brava, has a shorter surfing season but can handle huge swells from tropical storms off of the coast of Mexico. The Pacific Coast, including Ollie’s Point and Pavones, has more consistent, but generally smaller surf from swells from New Zealand. Much of the land is protected jungles filled with incredible wildlife and two coasts brimming with excellent surf.
Airports in San Jose and Tamarindo bringing surfers from around the world. Spanish is the local language, but Costa Rica attracts expats and tourist from all over the world. Travel is fairly easy by car and lots of easily accessible spots on some to the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Developments are encroaching on the pristine coastlines but there is still lots of unspoiled beach to explore. Costa Rica is a surfer’s paradise, with every type of surf break imaginable, pointbreaks galore, and where Pura Vida (“pure life” in Spanish) is a way of life.
