Ocean Beach (OB) Spot Guide

San Diego’s Ocean Beach neighborhood is a laid back beach town known for its mix of counter culture and classic California beach vibe. You may see bumper stickers claiming OB to be "an Attitude not an Address." OB proper has 3 main breaks on tap: a mostly left-breaking wave off the north side of the pier (OB Pier); Avalanche to the north is a sometimes a-frame (but mostly left) wave that gets a little help from a short rock jetty that produces waves which can get fast and hollow; and at the north end of OB is "The Jetty," a high-quality right-breaking wave running parallel to a long rock jetty which separates OB from Mission Beach. There are also numerous, typical beach break spots in between with varying quality depending on conditions and sandbars. Although fickle (and less crowded), you can also surf on the south side of the OB Pier and, under the right conditions, shoot the pier into the north side.
