Ala Moana (Bowls) Spot Guide

Ala Moana brings long, hollow lefts that peel down a shallow reef outside of Honolulu’s Ala Wai Harbor. The break is created from the deepwater channel that is dredged for boat access into the harbor. The south swell will bounce out of the channel and wedge up along the reef. Surf is the most consistent in summer months, and always crowded. The spot has a long paddle out over a mile stretch of reef that may be partially walked at low tide. There are also, urchins, sharks, and man-made debris on the ocean floor to beware of but worth it if you find that fun, perfect, barrel.
